Commitment in months and preferred period:
6 months starting from January 2021 (duration and dates can be flexible)
Description of the project work objectives (what to achieve):
The autonomous navigation of robotic systems in wild environments requires to set the navigation network by means of, for instance, terrain models. The problem to solve is the lack of accuracy of public available terrain models for the navigation of a garbage collector robot.
The planned solution is having a drone taking sensing the environment to achieve a very precise terrain model (~10 cm) applying 3D reconstruction techniques and combining its information with other less precise public/private resources to complete the coverage map. Also, the tasks include the detection of dangerous areas that might suffer changes in the orography.
